Adam Worsfold with Anthony Brady and Craig Hill are the original founders of ONIX AUDIO in Brighton England 1984 . ( They were 2 engineers & a salesman )
Adam Worsfold soon became the sole owner of ONIX AUDIO in 1986. It then went from strength to strength , with worldwide sales to over 26 countries including Japan and Korea . A real sign of success in the 1980s .
The guys knew music could be sound better than it did then, so two of the founders namely Anthony Brady and Adam Worsfold built the amp and created the legacy of ONIX AUDIO & OA21.
They modified an early design from the archives of an underground vault at Thorn EMI, where they were both serving as apprentice electronic design engineers.
They integrated components they had ( oops Thorn EMI had ) with musicality and sound being the founding principle of everything they designed . Once a design was perfected to their ideals they appointed a sales outlet. Brighton HiFi was a shop in the UK seaside town of Brighton and Craig Hill ( The salesman ) ran the shop with his father .
ONIX AUDIO was born and history was made. They were disrupters of the 80s within the Hifi world . Ahead of the game in so many ways .
The first real product ONIX / ONIX AUDIO Made is the now classic and iconic OA21 . It was unique starting the shoe box size amps , and it took the Hifi world by storm. The OA21 was born
Many companies have copied our original format throughout the years. It was the first unique shoebox size amplifier . Its is known to be an ageless design , with pure black cosmetics and the iconic huge three knob design . The theme still carried on today in what we do and design .
Onix Audio sold to enthusiastic Hifi dealers. and people that loved music . Magazines loved it , dealers loved it, and people loved it . ( Click Here )
Our very first review was with “The flat response “and even today our original OA Amps are cherished by all that still have them . The OA21 has evolved as it got better and better from 1984 to the final ones in 1991.
Today the spirit of OA21 lives on with our Founder, Adam Worsfold becoming the creator of the awesome and respected DNA range of amplifiers, all based on the original OA21 and sold now in 2026 .
