ONIX AUDIO

History

How we did it

Adam Worsfold with Anthony Brady and Craig Hill are the original founders of ONIX AUDIO in 1984 Brighton, Sussex, England . ( 2 engineers and a salesman )

In 1986 Adam Worsfold became the sole owner of ONIX AUDIO and took control . It then went from strength to strength , with worldwide sales to over 28 countries . Including Japan and Korea . A real sign of success in the 1980s .

While Adam Worsfold and Anthony Brady were serving as apprentice electronic design engineers they redeveloped an early design from the archives of an underground vault at Thorn EMI.

The guys knew music could be sound better than it did amongst the sea of amps out there , so Anthony Brady and Adam Worsfold designed a new amp that was built the way it should be and sounded better than the rest. They created the legacy of ONIX AUDIO with the legendary ONIX OA21

They integrated components they sourced that had musicality being the founding principle of parts they used . Once a design was perfected to their ideals they appointed a single sales outlet. Brighton HiFi was a shop in the UK seaside town of Brighton and Craig Hill ( The salesman ) ran the shop with his father . It helped build ONIX AUDIO

IN 1984 ONIX AUDIO was born and history was made. They were disrupters of the 80s within the Hifi world . Ahead of the game in so many ways .

The first real product ONIX AUDIO Made is the now 40 years later the classic and iconic OA21 . It was unique starting the shoe box size amps , and it took the Hifi world by storm. The ONIX OA21 being the first all black 3 knob half size amp.

Many companies have since copied our original format throughout the years. It was the first shoebox size minimalist amplifier . It is known to be an ageless design , with pure black cosmetics and the iconic 2 huge knobs on the front with the third smaller knob in the middle . The ONIX DNA family theme is still carried on today in what we do and design at OA21

Onix Audio sold to enthusiastic Hifi dealers. and people that loved music . Magazines loved it , dealers loved it, and of course customers loved it . ( Reviews click here )

The ONIX OA21 very first review was with “The flat response “and even today our original OA Amps are cherished  by all that still have them . The OA21 has evolved from 1984 to the final ones in 1991. Its legacy carries on in the DNA range .

Today the spirit and ONIXDNA of OA21  lives on with our team , Adam Worsfold becoming the creator of the awesome and respected DNA range of amplifiers, with all amps based on the original OA21 and sold now in 2026 .
